A brutal crime has shaken Uruguay: In Maldonado, two minors have confessed to the murder of an 11-year-old boy. The perpetrators of the crime, aged 14 and 11, had invited the victim to hunt birds with them. They murdered the boy with knives and machetes and threw his body into a well. Then they went to play football. The 11-year-old victim’s body was found the following night.
The case is particularly shocking because the two boys had planned their crime in advance, and had taken the five-year-old half-sister of the younger perpetrator to the crime scene with them, in order to establish an alibi. In the event that the crime was discovered, the girl was instructed to say that the victim had tried to molest her, and that the two boys were defending her. But when the girl was questioned by the police, she revealed the truth.
Apparently, the motive for the crime was deep hatred. It seems that the murdered boy played football better than his two killers and was more popular with girls.
