28/3/2017 – Uruguay to end UN mission in Haiti in April

Tags: ,

Uruguayan President Tabaré Vázquez announced that the Uruguayan UN troops stationed in Haiti will be withdrawn over the course of April. Uruguay has been involved in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) since 2004, with up to 1,100 soldiers at a time participating. The gradual withdrawal of Uruguayan troops had already begun in 2014, and there are currently only 250 participants in the South American country’s mission, whose mandate will elapse at the end of March. All of the members of the Uruguayan mission will have left the Caribbean nation by the end of April.
