19 December 2014 – Vázquez unveils his cabinet

Newly chosen president-elect Tabaré Vázquez has single-handedly picked the members of his government, many of whom already served during his first term of office from 2005 to 2010, sparking a good deal of criticism from within the ranks of the ruling Frente Amplio (Broad Front) coalition. Many of the new cabinet members had reportedly been informed by Vázquez of their posts before the re-election. Their experience was an important factor in the selection of ministers, according to the president-elect. The new cabinet will have a larger proportion of women than ever before: five ministers and two secretaries of state.
