A German couple wanted in their country for alleged tax fraud has been arrested in Uruguay. The Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior reported that the Germans, aged 48 and 47, were arrested in the beach resort town of Paraíso Suizo, some 80 kilometres east of Montevideo. They are said to have evaded taxes of 8.65 million euros with the sale of adulterated diesel. The couple had been wanted since early 2013 in Germany, where they were under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office in Rostock. According to Ministry of the Interior information, they travelled to Uruguay a year ago with their real passports. The Uruguayan judiciary ordered the arrest of the two suspects, in anticipation of an extradition request from Germany.
