More than 300,000 thousand people took part in a massive protest against violence against women and femicide, one of the biggest demonstrations in the country’s history. Trade unions supported actions against domestic violence and in favor of gender equality in all of the countries on the continent. In Uruguay, the public health care system and other public services took part in a 12-hour strike. The mayor of Montevideo and members of his cabinet donated their salaries to an organization that works to combat domestic violence. The Ministry of Defense gave all of its female employees the day off. There were also demonstrations, proclamations, strikes and assemblies in eight other cities in Uruguay.
