1 July 2007 – Uruguay has once again begun to collect income tax

After almost 40 years, Uruguay has once again begun to collect an income tax of up to 25%. Self-employed workers in particular will see a decrease in their net earnings, while salaried employees formerly paid other taxes which will now be replaced by the income tax. The new tax is the cornerstone of a reform of the tax system which is considered overly cumbersome and will now be more straightforward and fair.
