100 years after the first World Cup, Uruguay wants to host the international football championship once again. Together with Argentina, the country is bidding for the 2030 final round. The bid was announced by the presidents of the two countries, Tabaré Vázquez of Uruguay and Mauricio Macri of Argentina. To strengthen the ties between the neighbouring nations, there is no better opportunity than to apply together as candidates to host the cup, said Macri during a state visit to Uruguay. Uruguay, a two-time world champion, captured the first ever World Cup by defeating Argentina 4 to 2 in the final match at the Montevideo stadium. Argentina hosted the World Cup in 1978.
